Cerbere is one of those quintessential mediterranean villages, a small coastal strip located in the sunny and peaceful Bay of Cerbere, tucked incongruously into a sandy cove between terraced hills along a rugged coastline. It has a major railway station between France and Spain - the end of the line for the Spanish rail services, whereafter passengers must switch to French trains. But the greatest appeal is the simplicity and raw appeal of a Mediterranean coastal village enjoyed by locals and a small few who descend here for the summer holidays. The Spanish border is close by - around 7 Km. Within a short drive are the cultural cities of Perpignan and Villefranche-de-Conflent, the medieval walled town in the foot hills of the mountains, as well as the nearby limestone caves with Stalactites and Stalagmites. The vibrant Spanish city of Barcelona, capital of this Catalan region, is around 1 hour by speed train. Around two hours by car is Andorra, famous for its duty free shopping.
